REVIEWS for ODIUM Blood.

I really love an awesome bit of raw and nihilistic piece of blackmetal. And I do not care about production or
sound quality, I even don't care about playing skills of the bandmember(s). It's the music, the atmosphere and the
dark feeling they create that counts. But when I got this demo tape of UK band Odium, I thought for a while that
I might have to change those ideas. Since this is just, well, I don't have a good word for this, boring seems to be
the word that fits best. On the front cover there is stated "Minimalistic Raw Black Metal", well minimalistic it is!
This word is simply used for covering the incapability of playing any instrument properly.

Well, imagine some kids playing on guitars and drums and they really slowed it down to a sleepy speed.
After two "songs" I've already heard it. I haven't got anything so damn boring as this in years.
But the guitar parts are actually quite good, but so damn slow that it can't hold my attention any moment.
If it was played a little faster or had some back up of great drums (and bass?) it really had some great atmosphere
and hypnotising riffs. But this just irritates the shit out of me. At the end of the tape the music becomes some
more interesting but it's never something decent. Maybe I just simply don't understand this kind of music at all,
but I'm sure I will never play this tape again, and put far away in my collection.

This is an instrumental release, the first from Odium. Drums and a guitar. Occasionally bass. Raw, minimalist, black metal.
Overall the tone is very reminiscent of Mütiilation’s demented guitar melodies. The pace is very slow, the songs are not
rousing but they have an ambient effect.
"Blood" follows this set pattern for virtually the entire disc (just over 32 minutes), breaking only for a sombre acoustic
guitar and an interesting bass-fronted finale accompanied by (seemingly) un-amplified guitar.

The recording has an incomplete, unmastered, live quality. Uncaring, callous and destructive in its nature. It does not care
to be wrecked by a studio. It just is, and that selfish egoism and self assured stance makes this more than a
‘practice session’. It exists and couldn’t give a fuck what you think.

This English black metal band consists of P. Knight. And this recording dates back to 1998. And was back then released,
in a very limited CDr version. But now a tape version has been released, and that’s great for all of us, who never
got our hands on the CDr.
On the front cover right under the title “Blood”, does it say “Minimalistic Raw Black Metal”. And that pretty much sums
up the music made by Odium.
Simple and noisy guitar riffs, are excavated from the depths of hell. The riffs are ugly and filled with hate, they are
working the listener towards the abyss. Sinister and ambient, they are creating a great and ominous atmosphere.
The drumming is very subdued and more percussion like, but creates a perfect bottom for the abominations from the guitar.
The beats are kept simple and somewhat tight.
There isn’t vocals on the material. The music is creating the whole scene, and it does it well. It god damn sinister,
always dragging one towards the abyss. The atmosphere is dark, you are always expecting something ugly around the corner.
The music is, even though it is very simple, very intense and intriguing.
The compositions are well made and even though the are pretty close to eachother, when we talk structures,
they are never gets boring. The dark and somewhat rattling sound, is fitting the music very well and suits the overall
atmosphere on the material. The half hour the tape is lasting, does create the atmosphere and feeling within the listener,
which is the cause of this music. Odium is creating and catching the essence of black metal, a very moving release!

Odium Records Compilation
Odium Records

And translated.....

The compilation: cross and musical delight of every reviewer. To say the all more cross than delights, this time to greater reason. The British Odium Records a tracking shot of the actual better pargoli delivers me attractively (…), and in all frankness I cannot make other that to admit that quite little other times have arrived to bump into me in something of so embarrassing.

We meet immediately the Odium - of the series: when the disks carved themselves in cellar -, nothing more of a copy malriuscita of the Burzum of "Filosofem". But it succeeds to do also of worst the young promise lithuanian Anubi: I challenge whoever decipher the two meager minutes of "Menuilio Paslaptis", that, a lot nostalgically, remembered me the mine old Garelli when hobbled in ascent. It is touched the fund with the Excarnation and it is begun to dig with the Soman (unfortunately Italians), in both the cases black metal from public gogna. I am returned to a level of propriety with the normal (it is a compliment, for a time) and thrasheggianti Meressin, while absolutely to save I am: the synth-song of October, rather nice, and the Austrian Uruk-you Have that us propongono a long neoclassical piece, not original but in the respectable vein of different productions Cold Meat Industry. Alone an atollo in the middle to an ocean polluted and that farewell alone means vow in more. It will be a sin for the "mythical" underground, but except for badly for those that the cd does not go beyond the twenty-five minutes.

Review of ODIUM Hatred by ZRI Entertainment issue 5 from Brazil.

This is raw Minimalistic Black metal. as well as it is entitled. It is not really reccomended
for worshippers of musical quality, becouse the redording is very dirty. showing every more rotten side
of garage. Vocal guttural sharp, dirty bases of guitar and rotteness of the beggining to the end.
The CDR comes with 11 raw sounds that is a nectar to the extremists.

Also in the same magazine a review of ANUBI Gods Pantheon.

A lot of minimalist this Gothic-Black-metal. Almost favourible slow passages to a ritual. Bases of guitar
phychadelic. Vocal guttural serious interesting and drummer just as complement. Particulary i liked and i know
that it is not the music type that will please most. Great prominence for the creativity of " tamsiusi Ritualai "
and " Neprasiskverbs Ritualas... " thar really get to transmit the climate sacrificial. Apreciable for extremists...

"Jesus Wept" Black Arts comp #2 cassette 150 limited (Black Arts Productions)

Akitsa "Nouveau Regne" distorted vocals, grim black like earliest Burzum, harsh sound detracts
Cacodaemon "Sabbat of the Wicked" old school thrash evil metal, vocs sound like a muffled ole T Warrior
Cultus "A Final Monument Proud" (Sorhin cover) true heathen metal sound, uptempo and good. Vox too muffled
Devilry "I am Iconoclast" I hate this shit, evil death metal is tiresome, as expressed here
Heretic "Hell Calls My Name" necro vocs + distorted bass, sick song from a test session
Holocaust 666 "Ritual for Black Godz" hateable neanderthal dumbness, use of "666" and "z" tedious
Kult of Azazel "Mark of the Devil" rough version and a highlight to this comp, great fast black metal
Odium "Untitled" solemn, plaintive black gloom metal, this time with withered, distant vocals
Sagenland "Botte Bijlen" a mournful old battle song with a great medieval and far off vibe to it
T.O.M.B. "Immortal Storm" controlled mechanical chaos, black vaporous atmospheres and clatter
Vrolok "Hideous Suicide" insidiously evil, depressive black metal, grimness and coldness are all that is felt
Vultyr "The Grim Face of Death" funeral dirge guitar interlude, then Vultyr's unique black death metal

I was curious to hear unreleased/odd recordings from alot of the bands on this tape. Akitsa, Heretic, KoA, Odium, Vrolok etc... Because of their tracks, as well as some other new ones to me, this comp is a good one. There were a couple obvious distractions to the overall black metal mood. T.O.M.B. was a bit of a highlight for me, but it seemed out of place here. That said, this music of T.O.M.B. is quite menacing and evil, and deserves further scrutiny.

"Suicide Campaign Pt. 1" UK (w/Odium, Verloren, Haatstrijd) cassette 200
limited (Odium Records / Soldiers of Sudarium Dist.)
Haatstrijd leads off... hateful cruelness, scathing riffs have hooks in them, the vocs are reptilian. I've listened to this tape 100 times and their 2 songs always get me hateful and mean. Awesome primitive sick stuff. Verloren deliver agonized laughs and screams with grim, slower, and more deathy black metal. Uptempo parts meld catchy thrash riffs with tortured vocals. I'd say this band likes old dirty Bathory at it's root. The varied song tempos and structure can ramble somewhat, but not bad work here. Odium's off-timed melange of caustic guitar based black metal and feedback enshrouded hatefulness is able convey what it needs to without any vocals. Miserable, depressing sounds delivered with droll contempt for life. Overall, this has decent balanced sound, though the levels are fittingly a bit low.

ODIUM: 8 tracks. demo CD '98
( ODIUM rec. )

This CD-R release has been reccomended for me as a very extreme satanic music but i can only hear there only some knid of very primitive wannabe deppressing black or death metal with riffs which arn't more interesting than bridges of any bad average bands. A few simple acoustic parts are also added but who cares? All these we can hear in instrumental form with a weak reh sound and the shittiest xeroxed layout which has been ever produced for a so called " album ". I hope i cant understand the stuff well just becouse the bad production but if its really their top, im really sorry they are still alive... Bands leader Phil asked me to include the words " grim, raw and Black Metal ". O.K., i do: it would be grim and raw black metal if it wouldnt be crap as he also knows. /2/

ODIUM BLOOD: 3 tracks reh. '99

The above reviewed " fun " band ODIUM has been always used to play death metal for the summertime (?!), So this eight minutes long recording is a total sunshine production ( especially after their terrible demo CD ). First track "Kill with me" is based on an early NAPALM DEATH type riff but with slower rhythms as well as the thrid one "woods of Blood" which is also some kind of slow death metal without any mark of technical skill or song structure, only one or two simple-to-the-bone riffs and distorted screams. The best minutes of the tape pass with " Enchanting the path of destruction " which contains synth and drum computer only, wholly in the vien of Swedish LANDSCAPE with the same sound. This one composition is so great that perhaps LANDSCAPE wouldn't also be ashamed of it. Im sure that ODIUM ( BLOOD ) would have to walk this way to be appreciated - not only by the mainstream people but by the underground musical culture. /6/

AN honest review of ODIUM Hatred stolen from www.metal-archives.com

Written by DCLXVI on February 13th, 2005

As we all know, "Kvlt" must be another word for shit, and this is Kvlt as fuck. First off, this asshole must have recorded this thing with a cheap radio shack tape recorder he bought back in 1985, and decided to record in a tin shithouse. This is raw, but not in a good way. The songs all consist of 2 or 3 powerchords, and a simple slow to mid paced bass-sare-bass-snare drum beat. The guitar sound is thin and weak, and the drums and vocals are too overbearing. On the cover it says "Minimalist Raw Black Metal", which I think is this guys lame excuse for making some fucking boring uber-Kvlt metal. No atmosphere, no aggression, completely uninspired, this album is crap. Possibly one of the of the most....scrap that....without a doubt the most boring Black Metal album ever made....

And i say, thanks for sitting down and giving an honest opinion, i appreciate it.
